Professor Brad Frankum is a Consultant Clinical Immunologist and Allergy Specialist. He has been caring for people with immune system disorders and allergies in Western and Southwestern Sydney for more than 20 years. He established the first Clinical Immunology and Allergy service at Nepean Hospital, Penrith in 1996, and then the Clinical Immunology and Allergy service at Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals in 2003.

Professor Frankum was appointed as the inaugural Director of Medicine at Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals in 2003, and has since that time helped oversee the massive expansion of public clinical medical services in the Macarthur area. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2013 for services to medical administration and medical education.

Professor Frankum was the President of the Australian Medical Association, New South Wales, and Chair of the Board from 2017-2018. He was a Board Member of the Southwest Sydney Local Health District for a total of 8 years. He served as Executive Clinical Director of Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals until 2019, and remains a Senior Staff Specialist in Clinical Immunology and Allergy.

Professor Frankum was the inaugural Clinical Dean for the Macarthur Clinical School when the University of Western Sydney established the School of Medicine in 2007 to train young doctors in Greater Western Sydney, and remains a Conjoint Professor of Clinical Education. He was the Deputy Dean until the end of 2014.

Establishing SouthWest Medical Specialists at Narellan represented a new direction in Professor Frankum’s career. The aim to establish a modern, patient-focussed specialist centre that recognises the changing expectations and needs of people seeking specialist medical care has now expanded to a second facility at Gregory Hills, and continues to strive to provide a more accessible and responsive service to both patients and their referring general practitioners.

Professor Frankum has expertise and interest in managing the range of immunological problems from autoimmune disease such as vasculitis, lupus, and other connective tissue diseases, through to immune deficiency disorders, allergy problems such as anaphylaxis, food allergy, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and asthma. He particularly enjoys diagnostic challenges, and supervising complex immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory drug regimens, including the newer targeted biological therapies. He has extensive experience in dealing with patients of all ages, from infants through to the elderly.
